Why Enroll in an SWCeS Internship

Why enroll in an internship through the SWCeS?

The SWCeS offers elective credit to full-time Juniors and Seniors who complete 60 hours of service in one semester at an approved internship.  We can assist in placement or support a student who has found their own place of business.

If you are interested in an internship and need assistance with placement or are not sure where to start, reach out to Micah Susman during the semester prior to placement–at the latest.

If you are interested in an internship and have a placement in mind, let Kelly Powell know when you are building your schedule.  Then, reach out to Micah Susman to have him connect with your potential supervisor to ensure a good fit.  Once the paperwork is approved and your schedule has been built, you will engage with the internship during the related semester.

The benefits of completing an internship credit are many, including the following:

  • Gain valuable work experience and prepare for future employment
  • Explore a career path
  • Resume building to be competitive for future opportunities
  • Develop and refine skills with on-the-job learning
  • Network with professionals in the field; find a mentor
  • Gain confidence in working with others, time management, communication, problem-solving, and ability to learn new things
  • Transition into a new job

SWCeS placements from recent years:

  • Assisting an Occupational Therapist with elementary school children
  • Working in a local daycare
  • Assisting a professional welder in the construction of a ranch french
  • Supporting events and camps at The Durango Powerhouse Science Center
  • Assisting a Horse Veterinarian
