Individual Career and Academic Planning
Colorado’s graduation guidelines require students to work through Individual Career and Academic Planning (ICAP). Education research is also clear that students who are motivated by their post-high school goals do better in school.
Students can explore personal interests and then complete a Career Cluster Survey. This survey organizes their skills, talents, preferences, and academic interests towards aligned career fields. These clusters are shown at the right.
Support for eSchool Student ICAP
The Southwest Colorado eSchool supports student progress through ICAP through the following structures and supports.
- Community Forum – our centralized advising meetings bring the school together on a biweekly basis to talk about school needs, expectations, and ICAP.
- ICAP Planner – The SWCeS staff has developed an organizer to help students at all grade levels meet ICAP benchmarks. A planner has been developed to help students know what expectations exist for each grade level.
- Career Fairs – two annual career fairs are available for eSchool students to meet regional professionals in areas of their interest. The Montelores Career Fair serves the west side of the San Juan BOCES region and has typically been hosted at the Southwest Colorado Community College Mancos campus. The PoWeR Career Fair is held at Fort Lewis College and organizes districts from Silverton to Archuleta County.
